Hmmm I got the same results again...E: Unable to locate package xfce4-mixer

I get the same error for the package. xfce4-mixer is only available up to the wily repos. It is unavailable on xenial and yakkety repos. Sorry about that.

When installing xfce4 on xenial, pavucontrol which is a volume mixer was installed, so default on ubuntu for xfce4 would be pavucontrol when xfce4-mixer is unavailable. sorry about that. Updating suggestion to reflect this. pavucontrol is available on all mirrors so I will exclude xfce4-mixer from the suggestion.

I'm using Xfce desktop GUI on Ubuntu OS in a really old browsing machine project.

I need a volume controller for Xfce. I'm new to Linux in general, so if you can give me a thorough explanation, that would be really nice.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Hey YetZed, Welcome to Linux. Hope you're not hitting too many hurdles...I swear it gets easier over time.

Pavucontrol is the default audio mixer for xfce4 on ubuntu.

  • Check if installed:
dpkg -l pavucontrol
  • To install:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

I recommend reading this, as you will certainly have more questions in the near future. It will help you extract very prompt and tailored answers, while avoiding the wrath of some of the less forgiving in our community. It also goes into proper forum selection: Highly encouraged, you could be devastatingly mislead being advised by the incorrect sources. This question for example is much more suited for askUbuntu.com or even the Xfce IRC channel (granted LMG Forum is highly acitve and very diverse). Plus even adopting a few of the question prerequisites will undoubtedly increase your comprehension of Linux at a much faster pace. In short "Google is your friend!", Welcome to Linux! :)

xfce-mixer Xfce has their own audio mixer.

  • Check if installed:

dpkg -l xfce-mixer
  • To install:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xfce-mixer

You're welcome. The author is a little "aggressive", but the information is useful. It'll help you out a lot if you seek assistance outside of the LMG Forums.

Yeh, I really should've explained why I was asking. See, I've tried the command before, but it comes back saying E: Unable to locate package xfce-mixer

But I'm gonna go on a google binge, if you can call it that.

So pavucontrol is "set to manually installed" it says. hmm

see the updated "orignal" response. If you want quick concise answers give more information. You asked for a mixer not a plugin. You marked a response intended to help YOU troubleshoot YOUR issues as the answer...don't misrepresent people.
