I believe you can upgrade that to 16GB, yes. What is your current config? Does it have a SODIMM slot full or empty?

I do not have the laptop, but just looking around. I want a 16GB RAM laptop and just trying to see if I can upgrade it.

From the looks of it, half the RAM is soldered to the motherboard so you need to get a model where the 8GB are soldered to the board so you can upgrade to 16GB. Keep in mind, that laptop thermal throttles and is not good for any type of heavy workload.

Thanks! A friend of mine wants a decent working laptop and the only game he plays is DOTA 2. What would you recommend?

I think 15 inch display would be nice, he mainly works so as light as possible, touch screen optional, and 16GB of RAM would be awesome. The stuff he does is not really heavy loaded, but he asked for around 1.5K so might as well get something good to use.

the UX501VW or G501VW springs to mind. It's similar to the G501JK but the Skylake refresh has some improvements to cooling which reduces throttling (thought it's still present). Alternatively - the Dell XPS 15 with a 960M is also a good option.
