Try selecting everything in PCPartPicker and see if it gives you any compatibility warnings.

Glancing through the links, I highly recommend getting a Z-series motherboard if you're using a 6700K, because you can only overclock on Z-series motherboards. If you get the B85 model you currently have linked, you'd be wasting the extra money you're paying for your unlocked processor.

Also, the CPU socket on your processor isn't even the same as your motherboard. The 6700K requires an LGA1151 socket, but the B85 model from MSI you selected has an 1150 socket.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

Like Failblox said your motherboard and CPU are incompatible.  Also you have DDR3 RAM, LGA 1151 chips use DDR4.  Also if you are looking to overclock (seeing as you picked a K processor) I would go with the i5 6600K and use that $100 savings to put into a better motherboard with a better power delivery system that is also on the Z170 chipset.  If you aren't looking to overclock, then save the ~$30 and go with a non K processor and put that money you save on the CPU and cheaper motherboard into a better GPU.

Use this as a reference if you want: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/DGtVwV

I tried to keep everything as close to your original build both component wise and price wise. I did switch out the 960 for a RX 470.  Keep in mind that this is a non K processor and if you want to overclock then you would have to go for the K version which is ~$30 more and I would personally go for a Z170 motherboard over an H170.
