Upgrade from R9 280x?

I am currently running a HIS IceQX² R9 280x  and I am getting minimum frame rates on games like BF1, BF4, WoT, WarThunder, Fallout 4, and GTA V at around 30-40 and max frame rates sometimes in the 80's on High settings. I'm wondering is it really necessary right now to upgrade to like a gtx 1060 or R9 480 and just save like $300, or would it just be worth it to stick with what I have now until I can do a full upgrade with on my pc from what I currently have?

It's RX 480, not R9 480

And I would go with GTX 1060 if you can afford it.

Will be decent upgrade as far as it goes for GPU.

 

CPU can be bottleneck in some scenarios, and it's not exactly the best gaming CPU.

My bad didn't realized that AMD dropped off the 9 for the Rx 480. lol

yeah a RX480 would be an great upgrade if price is a major factor in your choice 

should see a decent jump in frame rates 

the option to the 1060 tho would see almost a doubling i would think

 

I'm in the same boat atm thinking on upgrading my R9 290.... apart from power draw i dont see going to an RX480 in my case would show that much improvement , so i'm looking at either a 1060 or 1070 to give me that major boost in frame rates 

 

 

ahhh

the never ending GPU upgrade struggle ....

Since you mentioned getting the 1060 would it just be a better by to get a Gigabyte Gtx 1060 Mini Itx with the 6gb of vram from $260 from what I see on Newegg or Get the Rx 480 with 8gb of vram for $270?

you sure its 8gb ram not 6gb for the gtx ?

that same card in Australia costs us @Aus$430

give you the option later on if you lean that way to build a mini itx game rig lol

 

 

tho with your current case it would look a bit on the small side in there lol

i'm rocking a corsair 780t for my rig atm too lol

Yeah I fixed that and yes that card would look tiny in my case. If I did get that card I would only ask myself "What is this a gpu for ants!?" lol
