GPU usage 100%, Horrible FPS?

Hey guys

Lately, maybe since a Windows update but I'm not sure, I've been starting up my games and getting 3-15fps and my GPU usage is pegged at 100%. Normally these games run at very high FPS so this is obviously not normal, not to mention my GPU is at idle temperatures despite being under "full load". Usually a shutdown and then start up fixed this but now even that is failing me. I played around with the BIOS a little bit and turned off my iGPU multi-monitor thing, and that fixed it (seemingly) yesterday. I have already done the usual changes within NVidia Control Panel (although it doesn't seem like the control panel affects anything, ever) like making sure it's on max performance and single monitor performance mode. I have tried uninstalling my GPU drivers and installing the newest ones, then I tried ones from July, now I'm back on the new ones because it didn't seem to work. It makes it kind of hard to diagnose because it only happens about 80% of the time. Have you ever experienced this before?

Also I forgot to mention, No Man's Sky doesn't even open anymore, it just shows stars at 1 fps forever. Not sure if that's relevant but who knows.

I think its time for a GPU upgrade, that graphics card is 6 years old now and prob wont hold up to most games at 1080p anymore.

I'm getting a 1070 before Christmas comes around. It holds up most games 1080p60 at medium-high or high so far. This bug has only been happening this week and it's super annoying :(

I'd DDU and reinstall drivers. A 580 is still decent tbh

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Dude that GPU is way too old for those games.  Specs don't even compare with low end gaming cards nowadays.  It's time for an upgrade, big time.

I know I need an upgrade, but this doesn't have anything to do with it being capable. It runs GTA 5 on high at 80fps, Overwatch on high at 100fps. It's definitely more capable than 3 fps on Minecraft (Yes, that did happen lmao)

Try drivers like everyone else is saying, and if that doesn't work you may be SOL.
