build second guessing

I recently built my first computer and I think I made a huge mistake but I'm not quite sure lol. I decided to go with a AMD A8 6600k apu just for the fact it would save me money on not needing a graphics card. Well now I'm starting to think I shouldn't have gone this route. My pc budget went up and now I can afford a $200-300 card. My question is would this cpu hold me back if I went ahead and got a nice card? Should I get a FX cpu and board and sell this apu and board?

You could comfortably go up to a 7950 with that cpu.

I'd recommend selling your A8 and getting an Athlon X4 760k and a 7970 or whatever GPU you want at $300ish dollars with the few dollars you get from selling the A8 and getting the Athlon but, like @WoodenMarker said 7950 would work just fine.

I will say this again, a 7970/7950 will not get held back by a low end CPU, I3's power 680s no problem, pentimus power 7950's no problem. Keep it, Overclock it as high as you can, get a AIO liquid cooler, and a good 7950/280X

I have it overclocked at 4.4ghz now with a hyper 212 evo.

I would in your position get fx6300 and 7950....thats my opinion
