Hello everyone, I build my PC three years ago and it is time to upgrade. I want to upgrade my CPU and Graphics Card and I don't know if I have to change other parts as well, if I do so. I am thinking of buying a i7 6700K and a GeForce GTX 1060 or 1070. Can I just buy those parts and build them in or do I need to change my Motherboard as well? And if I change my Motherboard, wouldn't I need to change my Memory, too?

My current build is:

- Motherboard: ASRock Z77Pro3 Intel Z77 So. 1155 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX

- CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 4x 3.40GHz So. 1155

- Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked ACX Cooler Aktiv

- Memory: HyperX Predator DDR3-RAM Kit 16GB (2x8GB)

- Case: Sharkoon T28 Midi Tower

- Power: 530 Watt be quiet! Pure Power CM Modular 80+ Bronze

- Cooling: Z!AL-EOL CPUK Thermalright HR-02 Macho

I am also thinking about buying the NZXT S340 Case. Is this possible?

if you want to upgrade your cpu to a new i7 or i5, you will have to buy a new 1151 motherboard, and ddr4 ram for it. though, the performance difference isn't likely worth swapping all those parts, i would go with an i7 from that generation that wouldn't make a huge difference in performance compared to the new stuff, but that is up to you and what you want to do with it. however, you can buy a new graphics card without any problems, which is where you should start, then see if the performance is good enough for you.

I agree with an S340 case, it's beautiful and easy to build in (save for the drive cages.

Looking at you setup, there's a couple places I'd want to upgrade first.

Storage: Do you have an SSD? They are worth their price and then some.

Monitor: A GTX 780 is still basically fine for 1080p, and if you want you could get yourself a display upgrade alongside new graphics. 1440p display + GTX 1070 should be about $650

For an i7-6700K you would need a new motherboard and memory.

Somebody feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I dont believe your current CPU and the i7 6700K use the same socket type which would mean you would need to get a motherboard that is compatible with the 6700K.

Edit: Took to long to post question has been answered lol

No, I don't have a SSD but I want to buy one. What size or brand do you recommend?

My Monitor is the BenQ XL2420T 24" with 2ms. I think it is a 1440p display.

Looks like your monitor is a 1080p 120Hz display. I'd say that's pretty good, depending on what games you like to play. The additional refresh rate (Hz) helps with racing games and shooters especially.

I recommend 240-256GB SSDS and good models are:

SanDisk Ultra II

Crucial MX200

Samsung 850 EVO

SK Hynix SL308

See which one is cheapest of these, and go for it :)

On the topic of CPU: if you want to upgrade it, I would choose i5-6600K, keep the cooler, and overclock it on a Z170 motherboard. Also get some fast DDR4 RAM.
