Is it intermittent? Most likely due to steaming video, either through Netflix or YouTube or something to that effect.

well its continuous when it happens but only at certain times (thats whats narrowing it down to what device i think is causing it) its to the point where my PC thats hardwired is struggling to even load youtube and stream videos on facebook etc. I would like to get to a point that if i pinpoint the device, kicking it off the network to know for certain if that solves the problem.

Try logging into your router and see all devices, if it really is only these devices.

What router do you have @evolution2810?

If these devices are mostly PC's, you can try to install GlassWire which is basically a firewall but it also tracks your data used, when you use a lot of data etc.

Try installing this on your devices and make it log your data, after a few days check out the usage on these devices and it might conclude it.

ive just managed to find the advanced settings of the router there seems to be only 2 laptops connected to the router and only one will be the culprit, ive also found mac filtering and timed access are these things i could use?

Mac filtering is just a whitelist for devices that can connect to the wireless and timed access is pretty much just for like parents who don't want their kids to be able to access the internet after a specific time.

What you're looking for is a setting like QoS (Quality of Service) which allows you to throttle connections to specific devices if your modem/router supports that.

Yes.

Wireshark: free to download here: https://www.wireshark.org/download.html

It's a professional tool to monitor all your internet traffic. For basic use, it's not that hard to figure it out.
