Get the faster 4 core for gaming

Hi!

 

I have a dell precision t3500 workstation which I am currently using as a gaming pc. I would like to upgrade the cpu and I found 2 options but I'm torn between the two.

 

Currently the system has a xeon 5620 (quad 2.4ghz) . One of the processors i found is a xeon x5687 (quad 3.6ghz)  which is going for 60 pounds (uk) and he second one is a xeon x5675 (hexa 3.06ghz) which is going for 100 pounds

 

For streaming and playing games should I get the faster 4 cores processor, or are 40 pounds worth for the slower 6 core? What do you guys think?

My suggestion is not to waste your money on old hardware and save up some more to build a Skylake i5 rig...

Id say save up for at least a i5 4690k Especially for streaming but if i could wait longer i would get as @PCGuy_5960 said Save up for a i5 Skylake System

The price difference isn't that big(this is why I said Skylake)... If you can't go Skylake then Haswell is great as well...

If you cannot afford the more expensive one, get the faster xeon. Fewer, faster cores are better than many, slower ones in gaming.

Well, then you need to save up money :P If you want a decent CPU, you won't find one cheap.

i don't understand it. you said if I cant afford the 6 cores go with the 4. so if i have enough money for the 6 core should I buy that?

I run a T5500 as my main desktop and I can strongly recommend the W5500. Specs in signature. Just make sure you have the better heatsink. The model number for the better heatsink is "U016F".
