G-sync/Freesync?

Does G-sync and Free-sync actually make much of a difference? I'm currently using an amd card and might change to a 1070 sometime in the future. Not sure whether I should get a monitor without either frame syncing technologies.

Depends how bothered you are by tearing or Vsync stutter.

With pricing the way it is, Freesync is becoming a no-brainer, but G-sync is still really expensive and may not be worth it for everyone.

It's pretty neat, but IMO almost night and day experience wise when you are going like 144Hz. If your GPU bounces between 144 and 110 for example, and that's common among newer games, you dont' have to worry about it
