What were you using to measure the clock speed? Task Manager?

I'm fairly certain it was a glitch as the CPU is not set to boost up to 5.8GHz. That would require a lot of voltage, and I'm not sure that your cooler could handle it at all.

 

Download CPU-Z and check it to see if you get spikes up to the same frequency.
