How should I upgrade?

Go to solution Solved by gtx1060=value,

if both of them are k models or just the 2600 is a k model, try overclocking to see what the max clock speed you can get out of the cpu. If it isn't a huge difference (...5 or more) don't bother switching it out

I just built my new rig and it's awesome thanks in Large part to Linus and this forum.  My old hp 700-414 has an i5 4570 (it's only 1 year old), I planned on putting it in my other residence and upgrading it. I found an older dell desktop that had a motherboard failure a few years back.  It has an i7 2600.   Should I just sell the 2600 (it's on eBay currently) or put the 2600 in to replace the 4570?   Thoughts?

i7 6700k - NZXT Kraken X61 - ASUS Sabretooth TUF Z170 - 32gb G.Skill RAM - EVGA GTX 1080 FTW - Corsair 860i - Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White

Correct me if am wrong but isn't the i7-2600 a LGA-1155 while the i5-4570 is a  FCLGA-1150 so am not sure if they are compatible(with each others motherboards) and too lazy to check it myself but on topic prefformance wise they are nearly the same biggest diffrence is the fact that the i7 has hyper-threading while the i5 dosen't

Like @Lostlogger said, the 2600 won't fit in the socket of the 4570. These are not interchangeable.

The i7 2600 doesn't perform that much better than the i5 4570. Its not worth the money to buy a new motherboard.
