I am ready to squeeze the trigger on the following components to start my journey in coding, light gaming and photo and video editing. I am aware that my system lacks a GPU, I aim to make that upgrade in the next two to four months with the GTX 1060/ 1070 or 980ti. My current budget is 650 - 700 USD.

The current Parts list;

PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650 80+gold fully modular

RAM - G.SKILL ripjaws V series 16gb (2x8)

MOBO - EVGA Stringer z170 mitx

CPU - intel i7 - 6700k

CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo

I am going for a small foot print hence the mitx motherboard as for the case I was looking at the fractal design core 1000. However the case is not in my cart. I would really appreciate the feedback both good and bad but mostly I would like to make sure all the components are compatible.

You're missing a few things:

1. A storage device! How are you gonna do all your stuff without a storage device of some kind?

2. A GPU. If you're gonna edit videos and photos, you will need a GPU in order for the machine to not take 5000 centuries to render. (I speak from experience)

3. A case. Unless you have the stuff to DIY a case, you need something to put the computer in.

So far, your build will cost you $638 USD.

Looks really good! How about the NZXT Manta or the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv iTX? Make sure your RAM is DDR4. Do you have hard drive/SSD? I would recommend a 240/250GB SSD with a 2TB hard drive for a build like this. My recommendation goes to the Samsung 850 Evo for the SSD.

Wait...your budget is $650 - $700? Uh...I'm not sure if you could squeeze all of that into that price. I'd probably go for a 6600K to make room for other parts, and downgrade to maybe a 550W PSU - your system will not need more than this (in fact, there would probably be headroom for upgrades). The Evolv ITX really takes my pick - affordable, and it looks much better than that fugly Core 1000. I would also go with a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD to save cash. As for the GPU, I'd recommend an RX 480 instead of the higher-end cards you've mentioned...you're only going to be doing light gaming, correct?

I have SSD and harddrives so storage is ok and I plan to use the fractal design core 1000 I was wondering is the cpu cooler would have any clearance issues.

You could go for that case if your heart really desires it...but come on...it looks horrible to me.

The Core 1000 supports coolers up to 148mm high...but the Hyper 212 Evo is 159mm high...no. One more reason not to go for that case. The Enthoo ITX has 200mm of clearance.

Still difficult to squeeze a 6700K into $700. My build was around $850 USD and I went with a 6500. I'd say a 6600K is about the best for that budget.

Currently gaming and video editing will be taking a back seat. My primary objective is to start putting the parts together and stop telling myself that I will do it. The total right now on pcpartpicker or newegg is hovering around 620 USD. I do love the Evolv ITX  but not sure :( as for the psu a 550W from a reputable brand is 5 - 10 dollars price difference and I want the modularity .

As my first build I fell like cutting back for now I made the following changes;

Case - Carbide series 88R micro ATX mid tower

PSU - SeaSonic m12II 520 bronz evo edition. *a mouth full*

MOBO - Gigabyte h170m-ds3h

Total: 612 USD

Question should I go with the basic i7-6700 which is just a 15 difference to the 6700k?
