i5 or i7 what is best for pc gaming

The i7 will perform better on games that can take advantages of several threads, as it's a high end CPU.

The reason why people recommend i5s it's because they are cheaper, yet they perform admirably on gaming workloads.

What's better? i7. What's better for your money in games? i5.

if its purely gaming i5 should be ample, i7s are more for multitasking/productivity tasks rendering etc I guess

Honestly, in the past I used to splurge all my money on the latest and greatest CPU. Nowadays, I find that an i5, especially a K SKU with some overclocking is WAY more than enough for gaming. I would rather spend the money I save on a better GPU/monitor or other accessories.

 

Of course, if you plan to use the computer for rendering/video production/other jobs where the number of threads matters then sure go for an i7! If you use it only for gaming, then save the money and use it for other stuff.

Depends on your monitor and gpu...

To get out most fps with best gpu you need i7. 

Like if you want to get gtx 1060 go i5

If you want 1070 or 1080 and have super high end monitor too go i7
