Hello!

I have been struggling with weird freezing since assembling my PC. The weirdest thing to me is that basically it doesn't relate to heavy usage or anything, but only occurs when watching videos from a browser. Not a single problem when playing games, editing videos or just casually browsing the web. It usually starts after like 20 minutes of watching videos, first my internet connection goes down, then Windows stops responding, and a minute later the only thing reacting to anything is my cursor. So the outcome is a complete freeze that gets resolved after restarting the computer.

I have OC'd my CPU but the same thing keeps happening on stock speed.

Specs:

MB: M5A97 R2.0

CPU: FX-6300@4.5GHz

GPU: MSI GTX-960 4GB

RAM: HyperX Fury 2x4GB

Storage: 240GB SSD + 1TB HDD

PSU: Corsair CS550M

OS: Windows 10

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

EDIT:

I also randomly get the following post-BIOS screen when booting. "The current BIOS setting do not fully support the boot device" This is solved by flipping the power switch from the PSU for a few seconds, a simple reboot won't fix this.

I'm doomed with this machine... :S

Try setting the power management to "Balanced" in the Control Panel. Windows 10 seems to have a tendency to mess with power management, including trying to over-volt the shit out of your system. I had (more or less) the same problem, only my system also froze while gaming and browsing the web with a lot of tabs open. But most of the freezing occurred while watching video (about 20 minutes in). As it turns out, my PC was on a power management mode called Stress Test Plan, or something like that. I turned it to balanced, and have experienced no crashes or freezes since doing so. It's been over 2 hours now, which is more than I can say about the rest of the day :)

EDIT: I got the solution from Bohr, who also experienced freezes and system instability.

My power plan is already set to Balanced, but thanks for the suggestion!

Try these things, one by one.

-Another web browser

-Make sure your web browser has no funny looking add-ons or extensions, and re-install Adobe Flash

-Disable GPU acceleration in your web browser

-Reinstall Graphics Drivers

What is your GPU anyway?

Thanks for the suggestions, gotta check without gpu acceleration on. I have already reinstalled graphics drivers with no luck.

Edited my gpu to OP.

No prob.  If none of those things work, try rolling back your drivers to an earlier version.

It could also be a power management issue (as somebody mentioned earlier), but there are more ways you can control that.  You can also try flashing your GPU's bios.

Opera did the same without hardware acceleration, so the problem's still there. Oh and btw, I recently updated the BIOS on my GPU.

Do you have another PSU lying around to try?  It may seem odd since it's not happening in games, but perhaps it's fluctuating at certain levels or on certain rails.

Unfortunately I don't. I edited the OP once again with another little detail. That makes me think could it possibly have something to do with the SSD O.o

Ah, now I see the error.

Try running chkdsk.  It could be the drive going bad, but I wouldn't say for sure.  PSUs can do all sorts of strange things.

Have you been able to run chkdsk on your ssd?
