My motherboard is an ASUS Z97-A and I'm quite sure it's broken now.

I was playing GTA V last night without any issues. The next morning I turned on the PC and noticed it was taking more time than usual during the POST. It reset itself then turned off completely on its own. I tried turning it on again but nothing happened. No lights, no sound, nothing. I don't think the PSU is dead because the motherboard has a small LED that indicates if it's receiving power and it is turned on. I also have an external drive connected and its LED is on, too.

I tried turning it on after removing the GPU but again, nothing happened.

Maybe there was a power surge and the PSU got fried.... The CX units are not the best PSUs in terms of protection...

I don't think that's the issue because the PSU is plugged in to a power strip where there are other devices plugged in (cellphone charger, Wii U Gamepad) and those haven't been affected.

Did you try clearing the cmos?

If your motherboard has a button to reset it press that, if not then take the battery out and wait for like 30 sec.

I'll give it a try when I come from work. Thanks.

Ok, that kinda fixed it. It booted up after three attempts so I'm not quite sure what's the issue. Today I turned it on and like yesterday it took three attempts for it to finally boot up the OS.

Some things I noticed:

  • Often it will try to boot up then turns itself off
  • One of the GPU sometimes doesn't turn on
  • For some reason, on one occasion it did boot up the OS, the network driver disappeared. After restarting the PC, the network driver was back to normal.

I suspect it's the motherboard, though it could also be the PSU and/or GPU.

What do you guys think?
