Hey guys. It has been a while since my last visit at the forums and I need your help. I am not big on building computers so I wanted to make sure before I go ahead with this one. I mostly use my computers for gaming but I want to make an AMD "enthusiast" grade build.

So here is what I have prepared.

  • AMD FX - 9590
  • ASRock 990FX Extreme9 Retail
  • SSD Samsung 800 Series EVO 250GB
  • 3.5" WD Green 1 TB SATA 3
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i
  • Corsair Obsidian Series 350D Black Windowed
  • Corsair Professional Series AX1200 1200W Gold/Modular
  • Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz
  • R9 280X

So here are my components. My questions are, will the cooling and power supply be enough? I figure I might grab a second GPU later on so that's why I have such a big PSU. But will it be enough for 2 GPUs and a power hungry FX 9590? Also I was told by friends to get a platinum grade PSU, but this is the only one I could find from the stores I am able to buy, that is high enough on Watt.

I will also accept any feedback to the build for changes. Thanks to everyone, that takes the time to read this, in advance.

Why bother with the 9590? Save yourself so much money and just buy an 8350, which is an identical CPU just clocked slightly lower and you can most likely OC it to the same level.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k @ 4.7 1.3v  with a Corsair H80 w/Dual SP120s - Motherboard: MSI Z97 gaming 5 - RAM: 4x4 G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 1600 - GPU: Dual PowerColour R9 290- SSD: Samsung NVME SM951 256GB-- PSU: Corsair RM 1000  - Case: NZXT H440 Black/red - Keyboard: Coolermaster CM storm Quickfire TK, Cherry MX blues - Mouse: Logitech G502 - Heaphones: Beyerdynamic DT 770 - Monitors: 3x VE248H Eyefinity 1080P -  Phone: iPhone 6S Plus               Please post your specifications in your post, signature or even better, system page on your profile!

Waste of money. Get better CPU - i7 and a better GPU - R9 290x or GTX 780.

Not exactly. The 9590s are cherry picked to clock EVEN HIGHER than a standard 8320 or 8350.

You would still only really need 700-850W even with 2 GPU's

extreme OCers all around the world with 4 cards in sli/cf and six core i7 with xtream oc use the ax1200 and they are safe.this build is a joke compared to those so why the 1200W psu ? why? its overkill and he doesn`t need it

anyway the fx 9590 is a waste of money

This build deserves a R9 290X to be truly enthusiast.

I would then also think about a custom loop for the MASSIVE heat output of the 9590. You know, nice red tubing, some AMD-esque LEDs...

For custom Loop you'd have to remove the drive cages though (HDD in 5.25" bay) for a front rad + maybe pump. Res in the back. Dunno, just thought custom liquid cooling would give the AMD enthusiast build the best finish. :D

who cares...

C'mon dude he wanted to make this build. I've seen people use more than 1 PSU online. Ridiculous actually :P

and he should make the build. with the fx 8350 ,a nice mobo and cooler and a r9 290X.if he will CF and he wants to be safe ,seasonic 1000 platinum. we don`t know how much W r9 290x will use but i think the ax860 is enough

Well AMD does tend to be hungry and yes even an 860 could be sufficient. It's not like the thing will need 1000W on idle which is absurd. If it is better value then I don't see why not get an 8350.

One note, overclocking the FX9590 requires more cooling than H100i can offer unless you don't mind the fans running at 100%

i would change ur 1200 watt PSU to a 850 watt and ur 280x to a 290x also i have no problem with fx9590 if i would get an AMD  build i would go with that one. and if u would get a fx8350 and want to overclock u would mabye get a bad overclocking chip and then u could not get it to 5 ghz:D but fx9590 is 100% that u can get to 5.2 ghz or higher

a 1200W is abit to safe, you can run 3 GPUs 1 CPUs OCd with it and still be allright. Hell you could even run 4 GPUs and OC them and be fine, depending on the GPU tho.

This has been mentioned many times, but.... get an FX 8350 and OC it yourself. If "you use computers mostly for gaming", having an overclocked processor is useless anyway. Just pick up a '212 evo and 8350.

*sigh*

We are trying to help. The 9590 is just an all around terrible idea. It performs around the same as an i7 4770, but it's wildly expensive. I understand that you don't feel like seeing everyone bicker, it's just the truth. Get an FX 8320 and overclock the shit out of it and get an R9 290X. You won't regret it. Why buy more expensive stuff "for the lolz" when you can have better performance for less cash? It's pointless.
