Image Backups and RAID-0

Go to solution Solved by tycheleto,

Thanks, since it's a few GB(say 256gb) i recon its just gonna take 1 or 2 hours correct?

That's dependent on the speed of the hard drive you're writing to. Not sure whether Windows Backup has a high overhead though, so not sure what the performance hit there is.

As far as I am aware, the first backup will be a full backup, which could take a few hours, and after that Windows Backup does some sort of comparison, allowing it to only backup what it thinks has been changed. As such, it will be much faster after the first backup, and should definitely be under an hour(unless you're changing a lot of files)

Hi,

Just curious. Let's say i have 2 SSDs and RAID-0 and have been keeping windows backup image of it in a separate Hard Drive regularly(weekly to be safe), then eventually one of the SSDs fail, is it easy to restore the whole image upon replacing the faulty SSD?

If you have drive failures, you will need to get a new SSD(or two new SSDs), setup the RAID 0 array again, and then restoring it should be as simple as restoring a complete image of a single failed drive, since Windows should be recognizing the array as a single drive anyway

Weekly images should be sufficient, but if you're regularly changing a lot of files you may want to consider nightly.

Desktop: Core i5-2500K, ASUS GTX 560, MSI Z68A GD65, CM HAF 912 Advanced, OCZ Vertex 4, WD 1TB Black, Seasonic P660, Samsung S27A850D, Audioengine A2, Noctua NH-D14, NB eLoops

Laptop: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon

Peripherals: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013, Razer Deathadder 3.5G, Razer Deathadder 2013, Razer Goliathus Control, Razer Manticor
