I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard as I don't particularly trust gigabyte since the people I know have all had issues of their boards frying themselves and taking their entire systems down with them.

I brought one for a months temporary measure.

This is the systems specs - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Hjkb8K

That sounds like a psu issue over a motherboard issue. Unless you care about aestetics of the board the gigabyte one is as good as any other x99 board.

The corsair cx psu you have will fry your system faster then the motherboard will, those things will butn a house down especially if you are overclocking, I would highly recommend a psu upgrade over a motherboard upgrade.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

The PSU is being replaced with a Seasonic 1000 watt platinum this Friday.

How many people you know have said that gigabyte motherboards fry? And all the other parts of the system are going out, because of the power supply not the motherboard.

I've known it happen to a few people mainly Z77 motherboards.

But you said gigabyte motherboards. what your bulid?

My current build is a X99-SLI with a 5820K at 4.4GHz can get it to 5GHz but don't want the 80+ temps saving that for custom loop.
