Steam failed to apply update

For a while my steam has wanted to install an update every time I launched it. After a while it just opened so I didn't think anything of it. My pc froze so I restarted it. And now every time I launch it I get an error after it retries a few times. "steam failed to apply an update". I don't really know what to do. I have restarted and that hasn't fixed it. Let me know of anything I can do to fix this. Thanks for the help!

Uninstall it then reinstall it.

I don't know? I've never had to do that.

Look it up in the Steam forums.

I deleted everything but steam apps and the steam.exe. Then launched steam and it installed and kept my games. Thanks for leading me in the right direction!

Steam can get real buggy at times. Never ceases to annoy me how every day it seems to have to update.
