What are the integrated graphics of the Q9300 quad core 2

So basically it turns out I've gotta wait till Christmas to get a new pc, but in the meantime I was wondering if I've been stupid this whole time and not used my current pc to its full potential. Since I've not been able to upgrade gpu I've been stuck with the Radeon HD5450 inside my pc with this processor and I've never really checked to see if the integrated graphics on the processor are any better so I've came here to ask the question, is it even worth having this gpu in my pc or would I be better off with the integrated Core 2 Quad graphics.

Just saying I dont know what integrated graphics come with the Q9300 processor.

there are none

this CPU is from before intel really started pishing the igpu thing. In your case you have to determine the onboard GPU on the motherboard, if there is one.

It's possible the motherboard has an onboard video chipset capable of basic video output.

Motherboards support multiple CPUs. It's designed to work with CPUs that do have integrated graphics, not just a single SKU. 

 

EDIT: It's also possible the board has a graphics chip built in.

I always thought it had came with some sort of Intel HD series.

 I don't think 775 supported on-die GPUs, I could be wrong.  The motherboard likely has onboard graphics.

That didn't really start until the core-i series (also, your HD5450 is somewhere between HD2000 and HD3000 -- so only a Sandy Bridge i7 and everything after that would have a better iGPU).

iGPUs are far better for laptops/tablets when you're not going to be gaming, and for the average non-gamer consumer, iGPUs are a better option even in desktops.

from this era you're likely to see intel GMA chips I believe. Hated those, if you think the original HD 2000 and 3000 are bad, wait till you try what they replaced. Intel has come  a long way as far as gpus go.

There are no built in GPU's on anything pre-Core ix. Graphics are all on the motherboards, and for most Intel-chipset boards it tends to be some flavor of the Intel GMA945,

no I really hate intel iGPUs on enthusiast platforms, and on laptops, they're pretty nice, though I have some glaring issues with optimus even though it really has some nice advantages. They've certainly gotten better in recent years, which is promising.

There is no iGPUs on enthusiast chips (-E). LGA115x chips, even overclockable ones, aren't technically enthusiast chips. 

 

Even on my 4690k I still like having the option for integrated graphics for troubleshooting purposes and so my computer isn't useless if I have an issue with my GPU.

We disagree on what makes a chip enthusiast, IE a 6700k doesn't need an iGPU imo, but yah my 5820k has no igpu which is quite nice

That's a good point. That didn't occur to me. 

 

Depends on the board. I believe most of the G series chipsets on the 775 socket have on board graphics, but none of the CPUs have integrated graphics.

It's that little iGPU that allows you to sell your dGPU to make cash for a better GPU while still being able to use your PC.

 

It's that little iGPU that allows you to skip purchasing a dGPU for the time being in order to spread the purchase and ease the wallet a bit.

 

It's that little iGPU that will be a godsend if your GPU ever breaks or if you try troubleshooting.

 

So while you don't NEED an iGPU, we better be thankful that they are there for when we do.

I have so many spare parts it's not even funny, I guess that's why I never though of that.
