Multiple Outputs From a Mixer

Quick disclaimer before I move on to the topic...I'm still a bit of a n00b when it comes to audio equipment (mainly mixers and all that good stuff). That being said, would it be possible to record audio from both the main output and the tape out on the Mackie 402vlz4? Ask any clarifying questions as needed.

Thanks in advance

You can record from both, but why?

What are you trying to do?

I'm trying to setup a system to record pc audio as well as microphone audio, and I was trying to find a way to see if I could have one output be just my microphone to send to skype or something and have the other output be microphone and pc audio to record. As I said, I'm a noob. Is there a better way to do this?

That mixer seems to be very basic and only allows one output. In order to do that you would need a mixer with a monitor out put.

It has tape out and main out, would it not be possible to plug in my mic to channel one, pc audio to tape in, and use main out for microphone out and tape out for microphone and pc audio out?

I don't think so, as out the outputs will all have the mix, unless you can use soloing or monitors.

Do you alreay have this mixer?

Why not use your computer as a mixer.

I noticed that there is a control section for "Tape in" that has a button titled "To Main" so I figured that meant tape in didn't go to the main mix until the button was pressed and only went to the tape out. Is this incorrect?

For the above reason of mixing mic and pc audio, but also acting as a interface for a guitar/other instruments from time to time and for the simplicity and ease of access of physical controls. Do you think it would be more beneficial to look for mixer with aux send so I could set up a mix minus?

You can just get a audio interface if you want to get a xlr input on your computer.

Id get a get a mixer with a second output if you want to do this, but normally your looking at much higherend units. I normally use mixers with 4 monitors, a mono channel and a stero main channel.

I think I'm going with the Mackie Mix8. It's affordable and it will suit my needs better
