So I have an asus (model n61j) laptop and every time I try to recover it it has the huge error message. I did format the harddrive using a sata to use cable so I'm not sure if that's what I did wrong. PLEASE HELP ME one more thing every time I turn on the laptop it goes strait into the recovery I mash delete key and won't go into to bios

If the hard drive prevents you from going into the BIOS, boot without the hard drive. Duh.

Knowing the exact error message would help. The fact that it's huge doesn't mean much.

Regarding your format procedure, most often the issue isn't with the USB-sata converters per se. But in order to fix most of the issues with Windows installation, you need to REMOVE partitions, not just FORMAT them. Once the drive has no partitions at all, let the installer create the partitions it needs and format them as it pleases. There are usually at least three partitions on the OS drive and only one of them is visible to you via Windows File explorer. The two hidden partitions are for Master Boot Record and built-in recovery/backup. You can format that one partition you see until the cows come home, but so long as you don't touch the two hidden partitions, there'll be no effect. I personally use the CLEAN command in DISKPART to prepare disks for installation.

The dude above me is on point, however often laptop manufactureres will not let you download windows using the key on the laptop, so don't wipe the hard drive just yet. Make sure you are actually able to use the key to download windows and to create a bootable USB stick first.

If you can't download windows using the key on the laptop and you wipe the hard drive, you're gonna have a bad time.
