Hey everyone

I'm searching for a new CPU fan for my EKL Alpenföhn Brocken CPU cooler since the fan that comes with has violet LEDs build in which kind of don't fit into a red and black (with a bit of white) themed build. Fan size is 120mm. Just give me any suggestions that come to your mind and that fits the build theme.

Thanks

Thanks alot!

beQuiet would not work due to the way the fans mount. :/

However the Cooler Master one would give this a really nice touch! Thanks.

How much worse would you say the Cluster are compared to the Magma?

Slightly. They're the same design but the Cluster uses a plastic that is more prone to resonating.

So if you were to choose between the Cluster or the Cooler Master JetFlo with white LEDs, which one would it be? Would you consider a Bitfenix Spectre too ( https://www.caseking.de/en/bitfenix-spectre-pwm-120mm-luefter-weisse-led-schwarz-lubf-086.html )?

The JetFlo are way better fans when it comes to performance (Like twice as much), but they are also louder. Take note that some people find the LED on them to be a bit too dim/not bright enough.

JetFlo = 95 CFM/161 m3h of airflow at 2000 RPM with 2.72 mmH2O of pressure for 36 dBA which you can shut down to 28 dBA with the 1600 RPM adapter (Youll lose a bit of performance).

BitFenix = 51.3 CFM/87.16 m3h of airflow at 1800 RPM with 1.88 mmH2O for 22.5 dBA.

It depends whats your CPU and if it's OC and what youre doing with it, but since these are fans that go on a tower CPU cooler I would recommend to aim for good airflow with good pressure even if they are a bit louder. I can recommend you three alternatives:

1) Aerocool DS-120mm red (known as dead silence):  To me it's one of the best looking colored fans out there. The only downside is that its not PWM, but its performing really well with a nice noise level. They give you an adapter which can downgrade the fan to 7V and make it literally quiet while keeping you at a reasonable performance level.

12V = 81.5 CFM/138.5 m3h at 1500 RPM with 2.29 mmH2O for 23.1 dBA

7V = 62.5 CFM/105.9 m3h at 1100 RPM with 1.25 mmH2O for 14.8 dBA

http://www.aerocool.us/accessory/images/dsfan_12red.html

2) Antec Tricool 120mm red: Glass like look. 79 CFM/134 m3h at 2000 RPM for 30 dBA (Can't find the static pressure so I would do more research before picking this one).

3) Cougar CFD120 RED LED Fan = Another glass like look but more purified. Gives you 64.37 CFM/109.42 m3h at 1200 RPM with 1.74 mmH2O for 16.6 dBA

The Jetflo is the better fan but they're not geared towards the same usage. The Jetflo isn't quiet but performs very well and the Cluster is quiet.

The Spectre isn't as nice as the other two.

Okay so I'm running into a bit of a problem here. Just so you know my CPU is an i5 6500 non OC'd. My heatsink is way too overkill for that one but I might get one of the Kaby Lakes once they're out and I would not want to have to change my fans then. I might consider getting a whole new heatsink in all white though but we will see.

I would not feel too comfortable putting a 3 pin fan on my CPU heatsink. If the Cougar were PWM they would be perfect! :(

It seems that finding white lit LED PWM fans with adequate performance is not as easy as I though at first.

A 3pin fan is perfectly fine. It helps to stress test your system for load temps before leaving it to assume temps are going to be fine.

Not complicated--just fewer good options.

Just tested it. Max Temp I get is 58°C with Prime95 and the stock fan is running at 1000 RPM.

And fewer good options make it a bit more complicated doesn't it? :D

Feel free to lower your fan speeds in that case. You're fine up to 80-90c at load.

They're new fans with few reviews and I'm not sure what to think of them yet.

They meet all my requirements so unless they completely suck there's nothing wrong with them I don't think. I could even have it on my cooler just as a secondary fan and put the main one on the back for push/pull and just have this one for looks. :D
