Today I was updating the nvidia graphics driver as normal. Afterwards there was a black screen with just the cursor and nothing else. I then disabled the intel graphics driver, thinking Windows was confused over which graphics output I was using. Now the graphics cars outputs a black screen with the cursor and there is no output from the onboard graphics. Is there a way to fix this?

My PC is i5 4690K at 3.9ghz, GTX 970, 8GB DDR3 1866mhz RAM

This is after the windows logo but before the password/login screen yes? If so try a control alt delete on said screen, open task manager, File>Run and type "explorer.exe" and tell me if it does anything, also try running "dwm.exe" if that fails.

Also when this black screen appears is your HDD light blinking or just off

It's working fine now. I somehow managed to re-enable the driver through device manager by using another computer to find how many times to press certain keys on the keyboard to turn it back on. Thanks for your help.

BTW have you installed the latest nvidia graphics driver. Mine doesn't work and I'm having to install the previous driver.

You could try using DDU, then a fresh install. If you're using the GeForce Experience to update your drivers always choose the custom installation. The quick install not only doubles up on drivers you already have, but places junk in your system you don't need.

Honestly this is the best driver I've seen in over 6 months, well worth the effort to get it working. If you're not using GFE then make sure you've selected the 64bit version and not the 32.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
