Hey guys,

So lately I've been noticing that my Windows Defender process has been constantly utilising 15-35% of my CPU at all times. This is especially annoying because when I go to play CSGO, I find that  my CPU is overloaded to the point that my keyboard inputs are delayed and unresponsive which makes the game borderline unplayable. I've been looking or a solution to this for a while but I haven't found anything as of yet. Just before, though, I tried to set msmpeng.exe (the process responsible for Defender) to use only one core as a means to stop it's CPU hogging, but I got an Access Denied error, even when running Task Manager with Admin rights. So, ideally I would like to be able to resolve problem 1; however failing that, problem 2 should hopefully make my problem a little less of a problem.

Worth noting is that this PC is only like 4 months old and the specs are beyond good enough to not have to worry about my CPU struggling with counterstrike.

If anyone at all can help, I would be very thankful as this issue has annoyed me a lot for weeks now.

Cheers,

espionn

And that's just the AV. The full Comodo Internet Security with AV, Firewall, and Antimalware:

It sounds like your CPU is potato actually, unless they severely borked Defender.

Just now, ModuleLFS said:

You should see if it's doing some regular scans or something. If not, search in Event Viewer for something related. If all else fails, shut the service off and back on again.

It isn't scanning (afaik) when it's using the high CPU, it says the previous scan was like 15 hours ago.
