After people suggested I buy an SSD as my first upgrade since buying my computer (thread here part list here) I have done so and am having some issues (to be expected). I downloaded the samsung data migration software and plugged in the new ssd using a sata 3 cable into the mobo. I also downloaded the nvme driver from here http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html and after running the driver with the ssd plugged in, it found no SSD. I re scanned using the data migration software multiple times and it did not find my ssd.

I am new to computer building and probably missed an obvious step, please let me know what I could have done wrong.

Thanks!

Did you plug the ssd into a power cable from your PSU?

Did your PC detect the SSD before you ran the driver or the software? I may have some outdated info when it comes to SSDs but my impression is that much like HDDs they work right out of the box without drivers.

Something as simple as that, I totally forgot! Thanks!

Cloned everything from my HD (only had windows and a few essential things on it) and it is saying this. https://gyazo.com/93cbea5938c394a3a148cd92cac68979

Do you know what that means? Is it saying I need to go into the bios and select the new SSD as the boot drive?

That would seem like the logical conclusion

Yes.  You need to shut down your computer.  Then flip the power switch on the back of the PSU to turn it off.  I'd suggest unplugging the computer from the wall power outlet too just to be safe.

Then you use a sata cable to plug your ssd into the motherboard and make sure the PSU power cable is connected as well.  Secure the ssd into the drive cage.  My guess is screws will be needed but those should've been included with your case.

Last you plug your computer back into the wall outlet, turn the PSU back on, then turn your computer on and go into the bios.  There will be an option for setting the drive boot order.  Just set the ssd to be the first in the list and save and exit the bios.  The computer should then finish booting up normally into Windows if everything was cloned to it successfully.
