So I want to upgrade my Lenovo ideapad n585 by adding another stick of ram but I'm having trouble finding a stick that is the exact same as mine

I found some ram very similar to this but the number on the bottom right (1307) was different on the other stick. Will that stick of ram work in my laptop? Link: https://www.amazon.com/Hynix-PC3-12800-1600MHz-Unbuffered-HMT351S6CFR8C-PB/dp/B00A8J2OUM

Also just buying a new 2x4gb kit of ram is slightly more expensive than buying this single stick but I don't know if it is compatible with my laptop. Can anyone help?

As long as it's the same speed (in this case PC3-12800 or DDR3-1600) and form factor (looks like a regular DIMM), you can use any RAM you want.

Doesn't it look like a SODIMM? Also the OP mentioned 'laptop' - obviously SODIMM! :)

Nothing to see here ;)

If it satisfies the following, it's generally compatible:

  • DDR3-1600
  • SODIMM
  • 4GB
  • Cas Latency=11

This stick looks like it's compatible, but it's always better to add the exact same stick of RAM, to ensure full compatibility.

As for the 2x4GB kit, check for your laptop's maximum RAM capacity, DDR3 maximum frequencies, etc. To sum it up, if your laptop supports 2x4 GB, and the new kit is 2x4GB DDR3-1600, it'll surely work! If it's DDR3, but the speed is higher than the laptop can handle, it just operates at the laptop's maximum speed (which is lower than the RAM module's speed)

Nothing to see here ;)
