the nvidia drivers were never installed. to install them i needed the gpu to be recognized. it just said "no hardware available"

Okay. Next you need to shut off the PC. You're going to install the GPU and all of the cables for it.

When done attach your display cable to the GPU and power on.

i will try that in a few days. my friend will lend me his 970. i guess ill just wait to see if the slots are damaged and return the mobo

I would reinstall the chipset and retry with the GPU. It sounds like your 1080 may be DOA since it won't work in any slot.

but wouldnt that be denied by the fact that it worked on my friends house(mobo) a week ago?

yes it would. Like I said though. Try a different GPU. If it works, its not the board and it could be the PSU.

 

Is that PSU fully modular? Are you using the right cable?

i believe so. the cable has  vga labeled on it. it has an 6 pin and 8  pin connector on gpu side and only a 8 pin on the psu itself.

ok. have you plugged the video cable into your onboard chip with the graphics card plugged in? did you get a post? sorry ive been away for a few days dont remember everything weve tried.
