Keyboard Cleaning Kit

Zack_Hill

Hi friends. Do any of y'all ever have issues with gunk and dust building up on your keyboards? I'm looking to put together a cleaning kit that would contain some spray cleaner with a cloth (for sticky spills like soda), various brushes (for crumbs and large clumps of dust), and a small usb powered dust sucker. All of this combined would go for around $10 and $5 for shipping. Can I get a show of hands from anyone that would or would not buy this and why? I want to get some feedback before I just jump in. Thanks!

ive always just removed my keys and soaked them in soap and water while I used qtips to get in there with the soap and water to clean it up. As far as dust and such, I have a metro data vac that I use to clean my keyboard and dust my computer components every so often.

I have a Corsair K95 with Cherry Reds. I also have a zoo of animals at my house so hair accumulates on my keyboard. When I clean my keyboard I take off all the key caps and set them to the side for latter. Then I get all the dust and hair from around the key switches with compressed air or blowing and I use Pledge Multisurface cleaner to clean any oils or other things off of the bezel of the keyboard and all the aluminum parts. Next I clean the key caps. I use the same Multisurface cleaner to clean each key cap until they are good and oil free. The Pledge multisurface cleaner is only a few dollars and most of the times you don't actually need a can of compressed air IMO.

I'm targeting this more towards people that want a quick and fast solution (don't want to remove all the key caps).

In all honesty, cleaning a keyboard can be a chore. Unless you just want to blow out some of the dust and wipe off the tops of the key caps, you're going to have to bite the bullet and pull them off.

Yea, there is no good way to clean a keyboard without removal of the keys to get at the caps and switches. Its near impossible to get inbetween there to get down to where the gunk builds up without this. It would only take 1-1.5hrs depending on how bad it is and if you remembered to take a picture of your keys to remember where they all go :P

Agreed. I'm thinking about going for the average consumer, not so much PC enthusiasts.

The average consumer is likely to have a cheap 20-30$ walmart keyboard they dont care about. if it starts not working properly, they're not going to spend the time to clean a keyboard they can just throw away and go buy a new one to replace it.
