I run two 1tb HDDs in my computer, both are Seagate 7200rpm Barracudas. One is a storage drive and the other is my boot drive.

I want to do a fresh install of my windows 7 and was wondering if I would be able to throw all my important data onto my storage drive, disconnect it while reinstalling a fresh windows into my boot drive and once that is done plugging in the storage drive to access my files and use it as my F drive as I do now?

Any assistance would be great.

It should work, and by the way switch to an ssd. Much faster than a hdd. It is also getting quite cheap to do so

Yes, you can do that. But you don't really need to disconnect the second hard drive, unless you want to be 100% sure everything gets copied to your intended boot drive.

No need to disconnecting. Windows installation won't touch second or third drives without authorization. I had 2 hdds connected while doing fresh install on ssd. One of those was old boot drive which I formatted prior to installation. You can disconnect it to be sure.
