Hi everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade my PC. Currently I have a GTX 1070 and I want to get skylake. So I'm thinking about Core i5 6400 or 6402P whichever is available. I won't be doing overclocking at least for now. As for the motherboard, my preference is that I need one that has debug LEDs. So I am looking at either the MSI H170 Gaming 3 or the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming since both are the ones that are available to me locally and have this feature. If there is a Gigabyte Motherboard that has debug LEDs please let me know. I'll get also a 8 GB or 16GB DDR4 depending on how much money left.

As for storage and OS, I currently have Windows 7 installed and I will upgrade my storage later but I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade my PC without reinstalling Windows again. Also, when I upgrade my storage, I might get

Samsung PM951 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2

or maybe a regular Sata III SSD. So if I go with the M.2 option, can I install Windows and boot from it?

What hardware do you have currently?   Life is much easier with Windows 10 in terms of just pulling your HDD/SSD out of your old system and inserting it into the new.  Did you take advantage of the free upgrade offer to at least get your existing machine a license when it was available previously?

So you're saying that in order to keep my Windows files intact, I need to have Windows 10 setup first?

Well if that is the case, I might be willing to go ahead with the upgrade. The hardware I have currently is core i5 2400, Asus P8P67 Pro MB, 8 GB RAM
