Reinstalling Windows?

I will be upgrading almost all of my PC excluding the power supply and hard drive. Will I need to rebuy windows? Will it want to reformate my hard drive? I feel like there is an easy way to do it because people like LTT build temporary PCs all the time.

You can re use your key normally. If it complains about your key, then you can call microsoft and they normally make it work.

 

Id try booting off your old hdd. It might work. Sometimes it wont. You don't know.

Yup, as well as the CD, It was win 8 at the time, but now I'm on win 10 so idk

That's fine. You'll download this and install it onto an empty USB of at least 4GB and use that USB to install Windows when the fresh install is complete. It'll ask you for the Windows Product Key to verify authenticity of Windows.
