its a key like from dell, asus, ibuypower, cyberpower ect , or a pc place that builds pc prebuilt. once its installed it is only good on that system its locked would be a better word . there is ways to unlock it but its call to the windows overlords and a long fight for that

That key is ok, it will work same. For installation you need to create bootable usb

Wait even if im not the OP is the OEM key the download thing that you download it on your USB and then install windows with it so that you get the activated version or is it the key to activate windows after you have downloaded windows?

You download windows form the official website to your USB and then you can reinstall windows with it. You can look on Microsoft's website for more information!

Yes but you need to put it on usb through application so it's bootable from bios

You don't need to buy windows in order to be installed to your PC. You can install the inactivated one from windows and it works fine. Is OEM the paid version?

Om the windows website it states "If you are installing the operating system for the first time, you'll need the Windows product key (xxxxx xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). For more information about product keys and when they are needed, please visit the FAQ" You can get windows 10 free unregistered if you already are on windows.
