parts list:

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/7ZwNQV

So about two days ago my powersupply just died on me, I pressed the power button and nothing happened. At first I thought it as the power switch that was screwing up but then i tried to short the pins but nothing happened again. I double checked the 24 pin connector to the motherboard and the 4 pin one for the cpu, everything was fine! I changed the outlet it was plugged into but nothing happened again when I tried turning it on. So in the end I concluded my powersupply was dead. The depressing part of this is that I threw away my box for the powersupply so I don't think I can RMA or warranty it. (I bought it at NCIX) I don't know what to do, but I might ask the NCIX store I bought it from if warranty still covers even though I threw away my box. Any suggestions of what I can do? Also do you think warranty will still apply even though I don't have the box, but I have the receipt?

(Built computer 2 weeks ago as of today and nothing seemed wrong until it suddenly stopped working.)

Might seem stupid, but is the power supply on?

Well, I guess just contact NCIX Support or EVGA support and see what they have to say

EVGA may not require the box but might require that you show them the receipt. You might still gfet your RMA.

So the warranty still does apply and all but I was advised to do the paper clip test so I did and the psu did power on and the fan was spinning. So now i'm stuck but I think it's the motherboard. Any tests I can do to check if it's the motherboard?

Well, if by connecting the 24-pin ATX connector and 4 or 8-pin cpu connector and shorting the power pins the mobo doesn't turn on, then clearly that's the problem. But do check that you're shorting the correct jumper.

Shorting the power switch pin and the one to the right of it right

1 - is the switch on the back of the PSU, if it has one, set to ON (1)?

2 - If there's a short or some other fault, in your system, the power supply will not startup (or more exactly, it will start for a few milliseconds and then shut off). A common cause of this in home built systems is an unused motherboard standoff shorting the bottom of the motherboard.

3 - search on the internet for instructions on how to start the power supply without connecting it to the system, by connecting two pins on the 24-pin connector with a paper clip.

4 - if the power supply works when out of the machine, then try connecting the PSU to the motherboard, but disconnect all the drives, remove the RAM, and remove the video card. If it then starts up (it may 'beep') try reinstalling the components until it fails to start up, to find which part is bad.

5 - if it still fails to start in step 4, with everything removed, you may have to remove the motherboard from the case to check for shorts.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
