Can your mobo use the 8 core?

My Setup :P

I would look into getting a used i5 and mobo as that will be much better / on par with an AMD 8 core while being cheaper and if you get a K version should beat it quite a lot. That will set you back a bit but you could still have enough for a gpu upgrade and maybe an ssd.

EDIT: you could also sell your cpu and mobo and get a bit more spending money.

m5a97 le r2.0

I would get an 8320 (maybe used) as its the best cpu at your price range that will fit in the am3+ socket and is better at rendering vs the 4 core, 8gb of ram should be ok but im not too sure on what rendering programs use

My Setup :P

please don't put a 8 core in a 970 chip set, a 990 at minimal and  a 990FX as the recommended

If you're using blender, look into sheep it Render farm. You run a client on your PC to render peoples work and you get points which you can then use to render your own project.

I left logged onto the xeons in college and left the client running :P

Maybe it will be fine I wouldn;t be putting that much wattage in a lower chipset. I have the gigabyte ud3 for my 8350.

I don't know much about the intel options at this price point, but you should look into the FX 6300, and then an SSD. This will improve your performance and much improve the loading times of things.

I have a similar setup and use case, (FX 6300, 240GB SSD, Radeon HD7770 2GB, M5A97 R2.0), and rendering is fairly fast.

(Although my animation software is using the U3 engine which does make it easier on my PC)

I edit my posts a lot.

probaly vm's getting hot. my VM's have a massive heat sink on them and any overlock over 4.5 ~ 4.6 gets them too hot and I get massive drops to 1.4GHz. I have a switch 810 and the rear fan blowing in and a h100i and the thing still gets HOT.

with a 4.8 Ghz OC I sit about 15C belower the thermal margin and with 5Ghz I am about 10C from it. That 8 core gets hot lol

Edit: I actually did most of my work on a Chromebook and then did most of the software side in college I actually did very little at home.

After the CPU and SSD, have a look into RX460/470/480 depending on how much budget you have left.

In theory, you're able to overclock the FX6300 if needed, but you'll need a new cooler.

well i mean i could buy a gpu later on like Christmas

Its really weird tbh, if you dont use it for a couple of days, it will turn on and not post with the memok! light on and gpu activity light shows its under load, but when i hard reset it from the wall its fine, its annoying as it stops me from getting a 500mhz oc out of it as the oc resets when it happens

what about a cpu cooler then ?

something  a bit cheaper than the hyper 212 evo ?

This one is a tad cheaper and on par and looks a bit better.

hyper 212 will do great, you should be able to oc a bit too, depends on the silicon lottery and how hot the vrms get on the mobo, not forgetting about llc on the board (load line calibration)

Very weird just heat though, these things get hot even when not overclocked.
