New gaming PC

Hey guys!

 

Sometime this fall I am going to build a new computer for gaming. I dont have a fixed budget, but of course dont want to spend too much. I am looking for something probably a bit above mid-range, so it will last for the next 4-5 years.

My current computer is around 6 years old and came with a i7-920, 6gb ram and a gtx 260, which i ~two years ago upgraded to a gtx 760. (would it even be worth it to upgrade?)

 

I have been looking around for some parts and has so far found some that i would like in my build. Since i would like it to last around 5 years before i need to upgrade, i've come up with two lists of parts.

The first one is my "budget"-build, but i still need some of the parts and i am looking for advice on the rest of them.

i5-6600k

16gb ram

gtx 1060 - (might go for the rx 480 8gb - which should i choose?)

240gb ssd

 

The other option would be

i7-6700k

16/32gb ram

gtx1070

240gb ssd

 

I am open for other/cheaper/better configurations

 

So i need some advice on which motherboard to choose, i know it should be with the z170 chipset when i want to overclock, but dont know which motherboards are good?

I need it to fit inside a somewhat smaller case since i dont have that much space for it so im thinking max 200mm width, 500mm height and 500mm length, preferebly smaller than that if possible and since i dont need a dvd-drive or anything like that i dont need extra space in the front of the case.

I havent settled on a psu yet, but are going for something around 6-700w gold. (advice?)

And i am also looking for advice on getting a good cooler for the cpu - not liquid cooling.

Last thing is wether to go for ddr3 or ddr4 ram?

I dont need extra hdd/ssd space since im only going to be playing a few games at a time and uninstalling when not playing.

 

What are you guys thoughts and advice on this? I have never built a computer before so looking for beginner advice aswell

you need ddr4 ram for skylake/1151.

no some boards support DDR3 but it should be DDR3L

Will this motherboard support ddr4 sdram? I've found some ddr4 ram that are cheaper, and only one stick instead of 2, only 1.2V and 2133mhz.

The only ddr3L ram i can find is only 1600mhz speed unless i want to spend too much.

The non D3 version supports DDR4!

Is this motherboard easy to use for overclocking? Keep in mind im still a beginner at this building/overclocking-thingy

Hmm ASUS is a known brand, tough I have only used MSI boards so far. I would think that all the major boards partners should be around the same on how hard it is to OC now that all uses a much easier BIOS, if you struggle ask on the forum or look up a guide!
