Drop in Framerates

Hey guys I just bought my first laptop and downloaded all the latest drivers and stuff and decided to run Prototype as I had it lying around but I am experiencing massive drops in frame rates from 40 to 7-8 on medium settings, My laptop has a i5 6500U 8gb DDR4 ram and Nvidia 940Mx 2gb, btw the game itself installed DirectX9, I think that could be one of the reasons the frames are dropping, I know my laptop isnt the top of the market or even close to it but it given how old this game is I think it should run just fine, Help me out please I'd be really grateful. Thankyou

Is your laptop in battery saver mode?

Is your laptop plugged into the wall?

No its not in battery saver mode nor it is plugged into the wall

Don't just install direct x12 as Emart said but make sure you're on the high performance battery mode and try running/downloading the game in a direct x11 version.

I'll just download the latest version of DirectX and try plugging my laptop to the wall, Thank you all for such quick replies

Make sure the 940mx is set as the default graphics processor. It could be using the integrated graphics which would explain the poor performance. Sometimes switchable graphics doesnt choose the correct one.

Also i would recommend uninstalling or disabling all/some of the stupid HP utilities that they preload on every laptop. They will probably also influence your performance running in the background
