Hey guys. i have a macbook 2012 mid with 1 120gb ssd and im thinking about getting some more storage. i can either upgrade the ssd...(500gb sdd upgrade would cost around 300$) OR swap out the existing (but not working) cd drive for a standard HDD (will have to pay for hdd and caddy) these 2 options is with service fees.

what would u do and what do u think is the smartest thing to do?

and btw i plan later on to run dual boot with osx and windows 10

Which one. The first retina with m2 was released in 2012. I have the first gen one. You can't upgrade the retina one. If you have the thick one with a CD drive, that's upgradable.

Its 2016 LOL. Use the ssd and you can easily do it yourself. There's like no risk and takes maybe an hour if its your first time and you're looking at google. I would realistically want to pair it like 512 ssd + 2tb hdd. For now choose the one you need most, whether its speed or storage. Considering uve been using a 128gb stick, you'll be fine without the 2tb hard drive for now.
