Build a PC. It's great fun and you learn a ton. Even if you don't want to do a lot of research or work, you could ask just about any of us to build a PC in your price range to get the best performance possible for the price. By building a PC, you can get better performance then that laptop for 200-300$ less including windows, a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard. If you need a laptop (for schoolwork or something) I would pick up a used Dell XPS 13 for $400 off ebay.

Headphones:

What if he wants to game on the go?  Just because someone wants a gaming laptop doesn't mean they've never built a PC before.

I guess.  That said, people here shouldn't be so eager to jump down someone's throat for wanting a gaming laptop.

i am thinking of getting an asus rog gl551vw. (i know i could probably get better preformance for a cheaper price if i built a pc and i might but im not sure if i will or not) is it worth it?

If you have the living situation where a desktop would do you well, then I suggest building a desktop.

If you want a laptop, I suggest AGAINST the GL551vw (or anything ASUS in general). If you want the laptop you can list out what you want it for and what your budget is and I will look around and see if I can find you something better, though I'll say if your budget isn't well over $1000 and performance is what you want, then a desktop is your best choice.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

To be honest, that dell 7559 machine sounds like it might be up your alley then.
