VSYNC doesn't work with my pc?

I haven't had any problems until recently. I have started playing a few new games and when adjusting graphics settings turning on vsync causes issues with the game. When I turned it on in Wildstar it caused my monitor to flash between a broken display of the game and black. None of my friends had the same problem, but for me I had that display issue and couldn't click on anything in the game. I tried again to use vsync with Lawbreakers and it caused the game to crash as soon as I hit apply. I have rebooted my pc as that usually solves my problems and my drivers are all up to date. I am running off of an MSI GTX 970 and haven't run into any problems until these two games. Any ideas on how to fix it or a confirmation that it just wont work for me would help with this.
