Reinstall Windows and see if it gets any better. Your issue sounds like its just windows being loaded with all kinda background processes. If you would have clear fps drops or stutter in games, that would indicate hw issues. Still, CPU not working properly is bit hard to notice without changing it to 100% working one. Usually it either works or doesn't boot at all/crashes constantly. And like Linus showed in video not too long ago, performance degration in 5 years isn't noticeable.

Hi, so once again I have another problem with my build long story short I've been OC'ing(CPU) for some time now and I don't know why but recently I used MSI after burner on my gpu and since then my computer in general has just been visibly slower; there many clues as to what it could be , My leads are the CPU as expected is nearing the end of it time after OC'ing but it could also be a hard drive thing. Mind you when I built my pc for the first time I barely knew what I was doing much less I was just watching a youtube video on how to build a desktop.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

Well, from that vaque description not really anything. Start by listing specs, add what you have OC'd and how much. Also what kind of slowness this is and how/where you notice it. General system notice is most of the time because of Windows. Reinstall, defrag etc. makes that better. OC doesn't effect on CPU lifespan over couple years. It means that if you run high OC over long periods of time, CPU will not live for 15 years, but rather 10 years. You won't notice slowness in <5 years time.

10gbRAM

Asus A88XM-A

Corsair h60

500w PSU.

I've been OC'ing from 4.2ghz to 4.5 and just recently I OC'd my gpu but while stressing it glitched out.

What kind of slowness? well it's like teenage disobedience, tell it to do something and it takes forever to do it.

Where I notice it?....everywhere while playing games browsing just opening the window explorer. It's like I'm on 1gb of ram notebook. I can't do anything productive.

Well thats exactly why then. Even after 2 months, windows installed on a HDD begins to slow down. 2 years is a long time to be running windows of a HDD without it slowing down like you have described.

 

The best thing that would fix your issue is running windows off an SSD.

Thanks you guys will make sure to try your idea's, by the way how much space is needed on an SSD to install windows?

Because I'm thinking of keeping the HDD for all my files(Games, music, videos), and by the way would it possible to have software install on a different drive other than the one you have? So I can set the directories to the spare HDD?

Win7 needs 60gb. You can survive with 120gb drive just fine. If you want any bigger software there, 240gb is minimum.

What do you mean? My current storage setup is 120gb SSD for Win7, some small software, drivers and usersettings etc. found under Users Documents and AppData. I have 30gb free on that drive. Then I have 2tb main storage for all software and frequently used files. Plus 1tb backup drive.

Also I have a new problem with my build, so just now I was playing some naruto and after I won the PC froze and the entirebegan acting sluggish.

I opened task manager and I saw the disk usage was at 100%;So after 5 minutes of pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and CAPS+SHIFT it finally came out of the black screen.

So I decided to get back to my game and then While in the loading screen I heard a beep come from my motherboard, this is also not the first time I've heard this beep, in fact as I'm typing this post it beeped again.

Also one thing that's really annoying that I don't get is that whenever I press alt+shift or shift tab while playing a game, rather than going to the desktop it stays black for the longest time.

Sorry for this extra addition I just feel I needed to address this situation.

That might be failing HDD, sadly. I don't know exactly what the beep means, but I've got it with laptop multiple times when it just locks and then whole thing reboots. Is it slow when you try to open folders? Thats one definite sign of failing HDD. I don't know if blackscreens are related, those are usually GPU related issues. Is HDD full, have you defragged it lately and how big is you pagefile?
