I'm looking for 2 surge protectors. Under $15 CAD. Il be buying them from either Ncix or Canadacomputer. I dont know much about surge protectors and if they are all the same. One of them has to be atleast 10ft and both need atleast 5 ports.

Also not sure if this is the right sub forum

whats a good price then? Also I see some surge protectors that talk about joules. Guessing thats how much it can absorb?

Its slightly more complicated than that.

Honestly i'm a bit inexperienced in this field. Someone else is bound to know.

To be honest, I would go the extra mile and get a UPS. It has battery backup that lasts a good few minutes so you can save your shit, cleans your power if you’re in a bad house, and protects from surges along with that. Undervoltage, overvoltage, and all that jazz gets fixed by the UPS.

Believe me, if you have a good few hundred dollars worth of equipment hooked up to power, you’ll want one of these. Shit sucks when there’s a surge, and guess what? It doesn’t just come from power lines. I’ve known people to have surges come out of their coaxial line and ethernet, and… I’m sure my UPS has ethernet and coaxial I/O for something, right? :P

I really would rather get UPS's but I cant afford it. I saw one thats 70 bucks 300w and seems reasonably priced but id have to buy two

Coax maybe but your home network should be surge suppressed on every part of the line.

You shouldn't need to use the ethernet ports on your ups. If you do you are doing it wrong.
