So im buying a i5 4460 for my first build and i want to know if its dual channel and how do i put the ram like in the first slot closest to the cpu or how?

It does support dual channel. The preferred channel is determined by the motherboard, not by the CPU. But most of the time * it's the second to closest and the furthest slots. Your motherboard's manual will have the exact info.

 

Edit: *For Intel boards such as OP's. AMD usually has it the other way around or it simply makes no difference, but again, the info is in the mobo manual.
