So I currently have a 770 from msi, and after some overclocking I can run doom at around high settings with 60+ fps.

However, I'm considering moving up to 1440p (my dad might upgrade to 4k, so I can ge his old screen) and since the 770 only has 2GB of vram I'm afraid it won't run most AAA games at that resolution. I'm currently thinking of getting a 4GB 480, but I'd like to hear someone else's opinion (btw I also don't have such a big budget, I'd say max 250 euros and in my country the cheapest 1060 is 290)

8GB RX 480 is a safer bet but the 4GB one is also a good deal in your case.

If you want an upgrade, do not choose the 4GB RX 480. Take the 8GB. And if you really want some power, then spend a bit more money for an GTX 1060. Greets

I probably shouldn't seeing as the cheapest aftermarket cooled 480 with 8 GB costs 320 euros, which is about 40 more than 6GB 1060, and both of them are out of my price range

you can try looking for rx 470 4gb or 8gb versions(for a reasonable price that fits your budget). They have been released only yesterday and benchmarks show that rx 470 can be pretty close to rx 480 in terms of performance and while oc'ed, they can be pretty much the same. its a good 1080p performer, that can play 1440p titles just as well with some settings turned down
