[HELP NEEDED] Dual Xeon E5 Workstation build

bluebird

Hi all,

I'm planning a new build for medical image reconstruction in Linux environment (using softwares such as MATLAB) and would like some help selecting hardware. I've 0 experience on workstation/server builds before so I would like some input.

Within $2-4k (rig alone - no peripherals) I would like to:

- Maximize # CPU cores

- Have 64 - 128 GB DDR4 memory

- A motherboard that fits in a desktop case

The only thing I've settled on at this point is to use [2x] E5-2630 v4 as it provides the highest number of cores for the price. For motherboard I've looked at Z10PE-D8 WS and Z10PE-D16 WS and I've read they may not support the v4 family of CPUs.

Any input on this is appreciated. Thank you!

What about Gpu

Not needed for computation at this point. Even a GT 710 will work. Might end up running in text-mode most of the time.
