Will PCI-E 2.0 be a bottleneck?

I'm just wondering, will PCI-E 2.0 bottleneck any GPUs? I am thinking of getting a new motherboard, but I feel it could be better invested.

In the case of crossfire maybe. That needs the cards to communicate over the PCI-e lanes or when using a very fast PCI-e SSD.
