A Question about my CPU, Help please

so I have an i7-3820 @ 3.6 ghz says on the intel its 4 cores but when i Launch CPUZ it says 2 cores and 4 threads when I googled it it says it has 2 physical cores with each supporting core.. can someone explain this please..?

ok that is very odd. CPU z must be having some issue right now.

perhaps because of hyperthreading?theoretically you have 4 cores, but physically only 2.

It physically has four and hyperthreaded has eight.

Try HWMonitor. Can also check in Task Manager for Windows. Or device manager or system information. They'll all tell you.

I know CPU-Z does, but check in the other places. CPU-Z can mess up. Task manager, system information, and device manager are all things built into Windows which can give you the information reliably.

 

You can also check the BIOS.

 

We know for a fact that it has 4-8; Intel says so.

Intel says four physical, eight hyperthreaded.

CPU-Z says 2 physical, four hyptherthreaded.

 

Intel is correct. CPU-Z is probably messing up.

 

I advise him to check something else. CPU-Z is not the only source for this information.

Yep!  BIOS should have accurate information if software doesn't. If BIOS agrees, then something went very wrong in that processor  lol.
