Typically, both should be detected automatically.

"It pays to keep an open mind, but not so open your brain falls out." - Carl Sagan.

"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you" - Edward I. Koch

"I didn't die! I performed a tactical reset!" - Apollolol

For RAM, it depends upon the machine.  Some systems, particularly those marketed towards business, require a quick trip into the BIOS merely to verify the configuration change.  Others will just POST with the new amount of RAM without any issue whatsoever.  On your typical consumer board like an Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc., the only reason you would need to go into the BIOS is to adjust your overclocking settings, if applicable.

For GPU, you might have to go into the BIOS and adjust a setting related to precedence of the iGPU versus the add-in GPU if you're installing an add-in GPU for the first time.  Otherwise, there is no additional BIOS-level configuration required usually.  With the "business" machines, there might be a step during POST that you need to briefly verify the configuration change, just like RAM.

The few times I've done upgrades to prebuilts its just plug and play... but if your specific machine has some very particular setup (which is unlikely since its a prebuilt), then I guess its possible that you could have some issues.

thanks
