Recently i bought a new cpu heatsink and i neglected to look at how tall it was and ended up with a 166mm tall heatsink.

funny enough my case only supports up to 160mm and i'm not going to leave my side panel open.

I've been thinking between the fractal design r5 and the bequiet silent base 600

the silent base has more reviews of being the more silent one

and the r5 is known to be customizeable which comes in handy.

my current gpu is 280mm long so the gpu won't be a problem.

if anyone could give me tips or know any other cases for absolute silence i would be happy to look at those.

i'm european so ordering from newegg will be hard or not even an option. my budget is 100-110 euro's which is about 110-120 dollars.

Both are excellent cases. Get whichever looks better to you or is cheaper.

Bequiet is around 95 euros with the orange accent one idk why the full black is 5 euros higher but the r5 is about 105 so the price isn't that much. the bequiet one comes with their own fans installed 1x 120mm and 2x 140mm if i'm right. also the define r5 is a tad lower in height

Both are great, likely the Be Quiet is quieter because I believe it comes with their fans, which are optimized for silence, of course.

The only thing that bugs me is the rubber hdd stripes. the r5 simply screw and slide em in. the bequiet one is limited to 3 drive and idk where to get more of those stripes

I just rebuilt my rig into a Define R5 coming from a HAF 922 and holy crap I didn't know how quiet things can get. This thing mostly cable managed itself. I needed 2 cable ties the rest was done with the velcros included. This thing looks so much cleaner it's heaven to build in and whoever considers getting it I can just recommend.

Addition: Temperatures are higher than they were in the HAF 922 (obviously) but since I'm still rocking a GTX 460 that was kind of expected with that tiny fan. Expect it to be better with a 1060 from MSI (hopefully) that I'm planning to get later this year.

find out that bequiet's hdd stripes are hard to get i'm leaning towards the r5 now aswell. it does look sleek and nice.

i've also looked on a couple of retail store and none of them sell the hdd stripes.

They should sell replacement parts, if they don't you might want to contact their support and ask about the hdd stripes and if they can send you some more.

I'd get the R5 just because the bottom dust filter is accessible through the front and also covers the whole bottom.

idk why but bequiet won't let me make a forum account and ask a moderator.

the only thing left to do is probably email them myself.

What pros do you actually see for the Silentbase?

Silence and the included fans

Some say that the silentbase is more quiet than the r5 but that's just a fraction of a decibel

Would that be enough of a reason for you to go with the Silentbase?

well, not really since it's a hassle to gather the rubber stripes.

Have you seen the Hardware Canucks review of both cases?

Well, the price segment you're looking at has sooo many great cases... Enthoo Pro, Mastercase 5, Define R5, etc. If you want to go for silence though, I really would go for the Silent Base 600, which also has the added advantage of being somewhat more unique, as it seems that these days everyone and their dog has a Define R5. :P
